Bring a Canva design into the certificate editor

Connect Canva, choose an existing design, and import it as the certificate background before adding editable Attributes and a QR code.

By Ashwin Shenoy · Founder and engineer

Canva is where a lot of event artwork already lives. The problem is what happens after the design is finished: exporting a PDF gives you a fixed file, not a certificate that can carry a different recipient name on every copy.

The Canva import turns an existing design into a certificate background.

How it works

Open a certificate, choose Design, and start from Use Your Canva Design. Connect Canva, pick the design, and import it as a flattened background. Then add editable certificate Attributes, the QR code, and any text that changes per recipient on top.

The import is deliberately one-way. The Canva file remains the source of the artwork; the certificate design is the version that gets personalised and issued.

Where it fits

A student media team can design the fest certificate in Canva and hand it to the organising team without exporting a PDF per winner. A training provider can keep a Canva brand kit and reuse the same artwork across cohorts. A sponsor can supply a background without learning the certificate editor.

The limit worth knowing

Editable text does not survive the import. If the event name, date, or award changes between certificates, add those fields as Attributes over the background instead of leaving them inside the image. The imported design is a background, not a live Canva document.

Importing a design does not spend credits.
