Templates are now certificate designs

The product now calls a certificate's layout a certificate design, which separates it from email templates and from the certificate itself.

By Ashwin Shenoy · Founder and engineer

"Template" was doing too much work. It meant the certificate layout, the email message, and sometimes a reusable starting point. A new organiser could not tell which one a help article was describing.

The certificate layout is now called a certificate design.

The capability is unchanged: open a certificate, choose Design, and edit the canvas. The design still belongs to the certificate, still keeps published versions, and still supports Attributes, QR codes, and reissue. The UI, documentation, and help text use the new name.

The distinction is useful in support conversations. A certificate design is the artwork and layout. An email template is the message recipients receive. A curated pack is a starting point for a design. Naming them separately removes a recurring source of confusion.

Internal APIs and older links may still use "template" in their identifiers. That is a code-level name, not the product concept.
