Set a validity period on every certificate

Choose an expiry date when you issue. After it passes, the public page reports the certificate as expired instead of removing it.

Some achievements stay true. Someone attended the workshop; that remains a fact. Others go stale: a safety clearance, an annual membership, a certification tied to a version of the software.

Certificates can now carry a validity period.

What expiry changes

Pick a preset or enter a date when you configure the certificate. After it passes, the public page stays online and reports the certificate as expired. The recipient can still show that they earned it; a verifier can see that it is no longer current.

Expiry is also written into the signed Open Badge 3.0 credential as validUntil, so anything reading the credential sees the same date as the page.

What it does not do

Expiry is not deletion, and it is not revocation. The record stays, the issuer stays visible, and the certificate is marked as lapsed rather than removed. If a programme is extended, change the expiry on the recipient's certificate.

Leave the date empty and the certificate does not expire. Participation and attendance certificates usually should not.
