Certificates now carry a signed Open Badge 3.0 credential
Every issued certificate includes a signed Open Badge 3.0 credential, so its details can be checked beyond the public page.
The public page is the easy way to check a certificate. It should not be the only way.
Every issued certificate now carries a signed Open Badge 3.0 credential.
What is signed
The credential includes the recipient, award, issuer, issue date, and any expiry date. It is signed with the workspace's Ed25519 key, so a reader can confirm which workspace issued it.
Open the verification details on a public certificate to inspect the credential and its proof.
What the signature proves
It proves the credential came from your workspace and has not been altered since. It does not prove the underlying claim is true; that is the issuer's decision. It also does not depend on the QR code, which is only a convenient route to the page.
A screenshot can be edited. A public page depends on Verifycate staying online. The signed credential is the portable record underneath both.
