LMS integration
Issue certificates inside Canvas LMS
Install Verifycate as an LTI 1.3 tool in Canvas. Learners claim a verifiable certificate from a module item after completing the requirements, with one credential per learner.
Canvas already holds the course, the learner and the completion rules. Verifycate adds the certificate without asking anyone to export a completion list or maintain a second checklist.
Why Canvas + Verifycate
The course decides who is eligible
Canvas controls eligibility
Place the Verifycate item after the pages, assignments, quizzes or minimum score you already require. Canvas hides it until the learner meets them.
One credential per learner
Repeat launches show the same certificate. No duplicate issues, no second email, and no question about which copy is current.
Verifiable beyond the course
Every certificate has a public page, a QR code, PNG and PDF downloads, and an Open Badge 3.0 credential. Recipients can share it on LinkedIn.
How it works
From module item to credential
- 01
Install the LTI 1.3 tool
A Canvas admin adds Verifycate as a developer key and installs it for the account or course.
- 02
Connect the deployment
Paste the Canvas URL, Client ID and Deployment ID into Verifycate, then verify the connection.
- 03
Add the certificate item
An instructor adds a Verifycate item to a module and chooses the certificate in the picker.
- 04
Set the requirements
Place the item after the required work and configure Canvas module requirements.
- 05
The learner claims it
When an eligible learner opens the item, Verifycate issues once, emails the certificate and shows the credential inside Canvas.
Setup
Connect Canvas in four steps
- 01
Create the developer key
In Canvas, open Admin → Developer Keys → + Developer Key → LTI Key → Enter URL. Paste the Verifycate config URL and save the key.
- 02
Install and copy the deployment
Install the app by Client ID in the account or course, then copy the Deployment ID.
- 03
Connect and validate
In Verifycate, open Workspace → Integrations → Canvas, paste the details and validate the deployment.
- 04
Add it to a module
In Canvas, add the Verifycate item to the module, choose a certificate and set the requirements before it.
Who it's for
Where this workflow fits
Universities and academic programs
Issue course-completion certificates inside the Canvas courses students already use, with no separate portal or login.
Corporate and compliance training
Tie a credential to verified course completion and keep an auditable link between the training and the certificate.
Course creators and academies
Give learners a credential they can download, share on LinkedIn, and let anyone verify.
Common questions
- How does the Canvas integration issue a certificate?
- Verifycate installs as an LTI 1.3 tool. When an eligible learner opens the Verifycate item in a module, Canvas sends a signed launch, Verifycate validates it, issues the certificate once and shows it inside the course.
- Is the Canvas integration free?
- The integration is available on every plan. Issuing a certificate uses one credit, just like any other Verifycate issue; unused credits do not expire.
- Who decides when a learner can claim the certificate?
- Canvas does. Set module requirements such as pages viewed, assignments submitted, quizzes passed or a minimum score, and place the Verifycate item after them. A learner can only reach it once those requirements are met.
- Will a learner get duplicate certificates if they reopen the item?
- No. Verifycate records the Canvas learner identity on the issue. Opening the same item again shows the existing certificate and sends no second email.
- Do learners need a Verifycate account?
- No. The certificate appears inside Canvas and, when email delivery is enabled, arrives in the learner's inbox with a link to its public verification page.
- What if Canvas does not share the learner's email?
- Verifycate cannot issue or email a certificate without a delivery address. The launch shows a specific message asking the Canvas admin to set the tool privacy level to Public; no certificate is created.
- Does it work with Moodle or Brightspace?
- Canvas is the first native LMS integration. Moodle is next on the same LTI 1.3 layer. WordPress sites are covered today by the free Verifycate plugin for LearnDash, Tutor LMS, LearnPress, LifterLMS and Sensei; other LMS platforms can use CSV import or the API.
- Do I need a paid Canvas account?
- Canvas LTI 1.3 developer keys are not available on Free-for-Teacher. Use a paid Canvas account, an institution sandbox or Instructure's test environment for setup and QA.
