Course certificates for cohorts and online courses

Issue course completion certificates from a cohort list or an LMS trigger, with reissue, expiry, public verification, Open Badge 3.0, and LinkedIn sharing.

On this page

A course certificate records completion, but completion is not one thing. It can mean every lesson viewed, an assessment passed, a project submitted, or a minimum attendance threshold. The certificate should say which one the learner met.

Verifycate issues from the completion rule your course already enforces, through an LMS trigger or a cohort import, and keeps the certificate, public page, and reissue path together.

This page covers the platform pieces, what they replace, the options for a course, and the outcomes a creator can track.

Define completion before the certificate

Common course completion rules
RuleEvidenceWhere it breaks

Put the rule in the certificate details and on the public page. “Completed the course” is a claim; “passed the final assessment” is a more precise one.

Ways to run it

  • Completion rule. Lessons, assessment, project, or attendance — choose what the course can evidence.
  • Issue path. Canvas module item, WordPress completion trigger, CSV, API, or Zapier.
  • Design. One Template with course and cohort Attributes, or a separate design per programme.
  • Expiry. Leave it off unless the course has a renewal rule.
  • Credits. One per certificate issue; corrections do not spend a credit.

Fit and inputs

Self-paced courses, cohort programmes, and live courses with a completion rule. The course platform remains the source of truth; Verifycate issues the certificate and keeps the public page.

For the cohort workflow, see how to prepare an attendee spreadsheet.

Common questions

Can certificates issue automatically after a course?
The WordPress LMS plugin can issue on course, lesson, or quiz completion. Canvas LTI issues from a module item the learner opens. The API, webhooks, or Zapier can automate from your own completion data.
What happens when we update the course design?
Template versions show which learners hold an earlier design. Reissue only the affected learners; each reissue spends a credit.
Should course certificates expire?
Only if the course has a renewal or compliance rule. Set an expiry date at issue and extend it on renewal.
Can learners share the certificate on LinkedIn?
Yes. The public page has an Add to LinkedIn action, and the certificate carries signed Open Badge 3.0 data.
